I've lived in Berkeley Springs, WV, for the past 20 years with my wife,
Bibi. We raised our daughter, Willa, there.
I’m a practicing family physician, working my entire career in a small-town practice. I started River Bend Family Medicine 10 years ago.
I practice what I preach to my patients. I’m a runner and fitness enthusiast.
I’m a singer and a performer, mostly country music. I am a member of the West Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame.
I come to politics through health care.
I’ve had the privilege of taking care of real people, and listening to them, all day for the last 20 years. They tell me their devastating health care horror stories at the hands of the broken US health care system.
And we talk politics.
ALL my patients tell me that they are sick of the fighting in Washington DC, and that nothing ever gets done.
And that’s why I’m running for the US Congress. I can’t stand by and watch any longer as our leaders fight with one another and my patients, and patients all over the US, needlessly suffer and die.
I have written two books on health care, Staying Alive: The Signs That You Have to See a Doctor Right Now (and the Ways to Avoid Having to See One Again) and Distracted: How Regulations Are Destroying the Practice of Medicine and Preventing True Health Care Reform, and released a country music album in 2008 titled The Real McCoy.
